H Beam Carbon Steel

H Beam Carbon Steel is a structural steel widely used in the fields of construction and engineering. It is named because of its “H”-shaped cross section. It has high strength, good load-bearing capacity and excellent bending resistance. It is often used in structures such as building frames, bridges, and industrial plants. Its density is about 7.85 g/cm³, its melting point is between 1370-1510°C, and its thermal expansion coefficient is small, making it suitable for environments with high temperatures and large temperature differences. Through surface treatment (such as galvanizing or painting), its corrosion resistance can be improved and its service life can be extended. It is an indispensable material in modern infrastructure construction.

Physical and chemical properties:

Physical properties

Appearance:
It typically presents a silvery-gray metallic color, with a matte or rolled surface finish. Different surface effects can be achieved through treatments such as painting, galvanizing, or polishing, which enhance both appearance and corrosion resistance.

Density:
The density is approximately 7.85 g/cm³ , slightly lower than stainless steel. This value may vary slightly depending on the carbon content and manufacturing process.

Melting point:
The melting point is relatively high, generally around 1370-1510°C , depending on the carbon and alloy composition. This high melting point ensures stability in high-temperature environments.

Coefficient of thermal expansion:
The coefficient of thermal expansion is relatively small, typically around 11-13 × 10⁻⁶/℃ at room temperature. This feature enables it to maintain good dimensional stability in environments with significant temperature fluctuations.

Thermal conductivity:
The thermal conductivity is moderate, with a coefficient of approximately 50-60 W/(m・K) , higher than stainless steel. This makes it suitable for applications requiring heat dissipation.

Electrical conductivity:
It has certain electrical conductivity, but it is relatively low compared to metals like copper. The electrical conductivity is about 10% of copper’s conductivity , making it unsuitable for high-current applications.

Chemical properties

Corrosion resistance:
H-beam carbon steel has poor corrosion resistance and is prone to rusting in humid or corrosive environments. Protective coatings (e.g., paint, galvanizing) are often applied to mitigate oxidation and extend service life.

Antioxidation:
At high temperatures, carbon steel oxidizes more readily than stainless steel. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 500°C can lead to scaling and reduced mechanical strength.

Chemical stability:
In general chemical media, carbon steel has limited chemical stability and reacts easily with acids, alkalis, and salts. For example, exposure to hydrochloric acid or seawater accelerates corrosion. It is not suitable for use in highly aggressive chemical environments.

Passivation:
Unlike stainless steel, carbon steel does not naturally form a dense passivation film. Surface treatments such as phosphating, painting, or galvanizing are required to improve corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance.

Application:

H-beam carb

on steel is widely used in many fields due to its excellent strength, cost-effectiveness, and good processing performance. In the construction industry, it is used to create building frameworks, bridges, and industrial structures, ensuring durability and load-bearing capacity. In mechanical manufacturing, it is processed into key components such as shafts, gears, and machinery bases to ensure stable operation of equipment. In infrastructure projects, it is used to construct railway tracks, transmission towers, and automotive components. Additionally, in fields such as shipbuilding, chemical equipment, and energy facilities, H-beam carbon steel is indispensable. It is used to manufacture structural supports, reactors, and other components that can adapt to demanding working environments.
